Setting up a Tour

Contact Margaret to schedule daytime or evening Library tours for your students.

Because your class time is precious, please plan to have your class meet at the Library on the day of the tour. Tours get the best results when students are told ahead of time that they have a project to complete that requires Library resources.

Please provide Margaret with a copy of the project in advance so that she can prepare a customized session for your students.

 
 

Tour Options

Choose from the standard sessions described below or create a custom training experience with Margaret:

 

Physical Library Tour - Provides a walking tour of the Library and explains features of its collection and services. (20 min.)

General Overview of Physical and Virtual Library - Provides a short walking tour of the Library (10 min.) and an overview of the Library homepage and Catalog (10 min.). The remaining class time is used for a quick discussion of online resources related to class subject.


General Demonstration of Virtual Library – A whirlwind session covering the Library homepage, citing resources, electronic reserves, and the Ask a Librarian service. Students will also learn how to use the catalog to locate materials in the NWTC collection, search Encyclopedia Britannica online, and use various article resources to search magazines and newspapers (50 min.)


EBSCO, ProQuest, and WilsonWeb - Presents a more detailed orientation to these 3 major article resources. Searches will be centered on your subject area, and students will have an opportunity to practice and ask questions (50 min.)


SIRS, and Opposing Viewpoints - This session includes searching national and regional newspapers and finding articles about social, scientific, historic, economic, political and global issues. Students will have an opportunity to practice and ask questions. (50 min.)

The Library also has online tours available.
