Convert files

Wordperfect and Works documents can be converted to Microsoft Word.

Open Word and select the Office Button→Open. Select the document from the appropriate drive.

In the drop-down box, select the application in which the document was saved.

Click on Open.

If the document does not convert, ask the lab technician for assistance.

 

Burn a CD

CDs

  1. Insert a recordable CD into the CD-Drive.
  2. Open Roxio CD Creator Classic from the Start→Programs menu.
  3. Locate the files or folders for your project by browsing to their location in the Select Source upper window.
  4. Drag the folder or files to the bottom window pan.
  5. Choose the project type of Data, Music, or Other.
  6. Click the Burn button on the bottom right corner.
 

View My Grades

Log into my.NWTC with username and password

Click on Student Center tab at top

Click 'view my grades'

Select appropriate semester, and 'continue'.

 

 
 

Use a USB flash drive

USB

  1. Insert the device into one of the two USB ports on the front of the PC.
  2. Access the flash drive in either My Computer or Windows Explorer.  In most cases, the flash drive will be drive E.

Remember to save documents to your flash drive.

  1. Select Save As on the File Menu or hit F12 on the keyboard.
  2. Select Drive E (the usual USB drive) or the drive letter of your USB flash drive.
  3. Name the file and click Save.
  4. To back up your work, save a second copy under a different name or create a back up file by clicking on Tools→Options and then clicking the Save tab to check the Always create a back up copy box.

Disable the drive before removing it from the port, otherwise data could be lost.

  1. Right click on the small green arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on the message "Safely Remove Hardware".
  3. Click on "Stop" and then "OK"
  4. When the "Safe to Remove Hardware" message displays above the small green arrow, you can remove the device from the port.

TIP:  Add a file to your USB with your name and contact information. In case of loss, this will help the finder know who it belongs to and how to contact you.

 

Print My Booklist and Schedule

Printing Schedules:

  • Log onto my.NWTC, click on the Student Center link, and then the blue link "My Class Schedule".
  • To print the schedule press CTRL>A which selects all and then press CTRL>P to print. When the print dialogue appears check Selection and then print.

Printing Booklists

  • The booklist is under the Bookstore tab next to the Student Center tab.
  • When the bookstore window opens, click on the first link on page called Order/View my books, select the term, print the booklist same as above.
 

Scan Something

Place the document or image on the scanning bed upside down with the top facing you

Choose a button on the front of the scanner. 

  • The picture of a scanner scans images.
  • The picture with a T scans text. The appropriate Microsoft application will open for editing. 
  • The button with a picture of a printer scans and prints to the printer.

Play DVD's

  • Load DVD
  • Click Start, All Programs, Media Player Classic, Media player Classic.
  • Click File, Open Disc>(D:).  It should start playing.
  • Note:  Some DVD's may be scratched and need to be fast forwarded a little and then rewound to just before the beginning in order to play.
