Blackboard Faculty Guide: Adding Library Resources

Adding E-Books

You can use the Build Content - Library Search method to search for and add full e-books to Blackboard (see instructions).

If you are starting your search in any of the Library's resources, you may want to just copy and paste the persistent URL for the ebook or download a chapter as a PDF file and add it to Blackboard.  Persistent URLs have the advantage of allowing you to link to specific pages or chapters.

Copying an Ebook Link from Library Search Results Page

If you find an Ebook Central, EBSCO or Safari book in the results of a search in Library Search, you can copy the link to the book to share with others:

In Chrome and Firefox, right-click on Click to read online and select Copy link address or Copy link location.  screenshot of library search record

Adding Links to Ebook Central Ebooks in Blackboard Learn

You can create links to ebook titles, chapters, and pages to any book you find in Ebook Central (for searching help, see Faculty Instructions for Ebook Central).

  1. Search or browse for books or chapters
  2. Copy the url from the top of the browser
  3. Paste the url into Blackboard.  Remember to have the link open in a new window.

Please note that there is NOT a proxy prefix in front of Ebook Central links.

Linking to O'Reilly (formerly Safari) Content

It is very easy to link to resources from O'Reilly.  For details on how to search, browse, and create playlists, visit our O'Reilly guide.

Once you find the ebook, online video, case study, or online tutorial, you can simply copy the url from the browser window and add it to Blackboard as a new item.  You do not need to add a proxy prefix to the link since O'Reilly uses NWTC's single sign-on solution.

Example URL:

Creating Playlists

Playlists allow you to organize and share O'Reilly content (book, book chapter, video, video clip).

Click the Playlists icon next to the content title.

For example, you could add the full 11-hour video (NCLEX-RN Review Complete Video Course) or a 38-minute part of lesson 1 (Testing Strategies for Success - How to Pass the NCLEX) to a Playlist by clicking on the Playlist icon.

Then a box will pop up with options of where to save the video clip. If you have existing named Playlists, those are listed first. Otherwise, click Add to a new playlist.

Sharing a Playlist

You can share a playlist with other NWTC students and employees. Click on the Playlists icon in the left-hand navigation column.

Then click on the three dots at the bottom of the Playlist. Select Share Settings, toggle it to Shared and copy the URL to share it with your colleagues.
