Faculty Services/Policies at the NWTC Library

What is Interlibrary Loan?

NWTC employees and students can use WISCAT to find items at other libraries and ask for them to be sent here for free.  If NWTC does not own the item, use the "ILL"  or "Request This" button to send the request.  You can also send an email request to interlibrary.loan@nwtc.edu.

Materials usually take 1 week to arrive at NWTC through the van delivery system.  If you prefer, you can ask your local public library to perform Interlibrary loans so that you can pick up the materials there.  NWTC also has agreements with local libraries so you can go there to use materials (ask the Library staff).

If you need us to return a book to a public library for you, please give it to us a few days before it is due.

Please note: Overdue Interlibrary Loan materials are subject to fines.

Due Dates

Faculty receive default due dates when they check out materials from the Library (books and magazines circulate for 2 weeks, videos circulate for 1 week, reference books circulate for 1 day).

However, if you know that you will need to keep an item longer at the time of check out, just ask the Library staff to modify the due date right away.  They will gladly comply with reasonable requests for extended check out periods to meet your needs.

Departmental Accounts

Some departments require certain materials to be housed in their faculty area.  The Manager of Research & Library Services can create a departmental account for those resources.

Items are checked out to the departmental account, and an inventory sheet is sent to the department in April to ensure that everything is still present.  Faculty are also asked if materials need to be updated at that time.

Overdue/Lost Material

In order that all Library users may have fair access to materials, we ask that you return or renew items before the due date.

You will be sent an overdue notice if you keep materials longer than the lending period.  Your department may be charged for lost materials.
