Mobile Library Sites and Apps

Welcome to eBooks

eBooks come in many forms and formats.

eBooks available through the NWTC Library can be used online, and some can be read offline by downloading to a computer, Smartphone, or eReader. Offline procedures will differ between platforms and some may not be compatible.

ebrary

Ebook Central can be accessed directly at this link. You may also come across Ebook Central books in Library Search results lists.

There are three ways to access an ebrary book offline:

You will be given the option to download a chapter as a pdf or the entire document for 14 days in Adobe Digital Editions format (see first time instructions).

Chapters downloaded as pdfs do not expire.  To choose this option click the Download button in the ebrary search-results list or from a book's details page and follow the instructions.

Detailed instructions on downloading ebrary books are available on the ebrary guide.

Safari Technology E-books

The Safari Technology Books Collection contains current ebooks (and videos) on technology, digital media, and business topics.

Please be aware that Safari may only be accessed by three students at a time.

Safari books can be read online but cannot be downloaded or printed full-text. You may print one page at a time using the printer icon above the text.

See Searching in Safari instructions for more information on Safari ebooks.

EBSCO Ebooks

EBSCO Ebooks can be accessed directly at this link. You may also come across ebrary books in Library Search results lists.

Please be aware that a book can only be downloaded by two students at a time. If you select a book to download and it is currently checked out, you will receive the message Sorry, this eBook is in use. You can place a hold on the ebook to download when it becomes available. Just enter your e-mail address in the field provided and click the Place Hold button.

Once you click on the title of a book, you have the option to view the  eBook full text or Download.

Download the book to read offline by clicking on Download and then signing in Sign In to your account.

If you do not already have Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, install the software for free from http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ before starting. This software is necessary for downloading any ebook from any library.  If you do not already have an Adobe account, you will need to create one during the "Authorize Computer" step. Choose to "Get an Adobe ID Online" and then record your ID and password for later.

EBSCO app AppleAndroid is available on iTunes for Apple products and Google Play for Android. Once the app is installed, go to EBSCO Ebooks. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications". This brings up a screen that prompts you to enter an email address that EBSCO uses to send you an authentication key (Note: use the email address that you use in the native mail application of your device). Next, open the email that contains the authentication key and tap on the link in the email (Note: you must do this within 24 hours of receipt of the key). This process pairs your device with EBSCOHost for a period of 9 months.

Adobe Digital Editions and Bluefire Reader

Offline Ebooks - NWTC provides access to ebooks that can be read offline on two ebook platforms: ebrary and EBSCO Ebooks. Both platforms require Adobe Digital Editions for offline viewing. (Be aware that not all devices support Adobe Digital Editions.)

Steps for the First Time Only

  2. If you will be reading the ebook on a mobile device, install the free BlueFire Reader app from http://www.bluefirereader.com/ on your device before starting. You will need this app to read the encrypted file. NOTE: Your Adobe Digital Editions and BlueFire Reader must be authorized using the same Adobe ID. You are not able to download to devices that do not use Adobe Digital Editions, such as Kindles.
