Faculty Instructions for Films on Demand

Films on Demand Overview

Faculty have several options for putting Films on Demand videos into their Canvas courses.

  • For entire videos or segments, the easiest method is to use the external tool/apps options to embed the video (see instructions below). 
  • Faculty can also use Films on Demand links for playlists.

Note: Embed codes do not work inside PowerPoint, link to videos instead.  When watching videos, you will see transcripts next to the video and links to any segments on the right side.  You can link to entire videos, choose specific segments, or use the snip button to create custom segments.

Embed a Video on a Canvas Page

  1. Create a Canvas page (usually within a module)
  2. On the Toolbar, click on the Apps icon apps tool link > View All > Select Infobase Platform
  3. In the Infobase Platform pop-up window, search for a full video title or segment, then click the magnifying glass icon to search.
  4. You can Preview any full video or segment
  5. When you have made your selection, click the Embed drop-down menu below the video title or segment and select Embed Small, Embed Medium, or Embed Large.
  6. Click the Save & Publish button on the bottom of the page when you are finished.

Embed a Video as a Graded Assignment

  1. Create an Assignment.  Enter an assignment name.
  2. Scroll down and enter the number of points.
  3. In the Submission Type section, select External Tool from the dropdown menu, click the box next to Load This Tool in a New Tab, and click the Find button.

  1. In the Configure External Tool pop-up window, click on Infobase Platform.

  1. In the Infobase Platform pop-up window, search for a full video title or segment.You can preview any full video or segment.
  2. When you have made your selection, click the Embed drop-down menu to select Embed Small, Embed Medium, or Embed Large.
  3. Back at the Configure External Tool pop-up, click Select.
  4. The url for the chosen video will appear in the Find field. Double-check that you have clicked the box next to Load This Tool in a New Tab.

  1. Add instructions above the video, if desired. 
  2. Click the Save & Publish button.
