Faculty Instructions for Films on Demand

Accessing Films on Demand

You can access Films on Demand's online videos and video segments from the Films on Demand site or inside Canvas.

Because the Library pays an annual subscription fee for these videos, they can be: 

[Note: Films on Demand videos CANNOT be embedded in PowerPoint. They should be linked instead.]

Basic Search

To search by keyword, type your topic into the search box.  Click the magnifying glass to begin the search. search box image

 

To browse through the collection, click the three horizontal lines next to the Films on Demand logo.  Select from Subjects, Popular Categories and Featured Producers.  Choose View All to see more options.

 On the right side of the screen, you can choose:   

  • Full Program - View entire video
  • Segments - View only chosen segments of video. Each segment has a unique segment record URL, available through the Embed/Link icon on the bottom left side of the screen .
  • Transcript - View the transcript for the entire video or the segment (when available)

On the bottom left side of the screen, you can choose: 

  • Share - Embed/Link - Select the LTI link if using Canvas.  For detailed instructions see Embedding Videos in Canvas. You can also Share to Google Classroom (requires a Google account) or email the link. 
  • Add to - Add to Playlist (must be logged into as a User Account) and Add to Favorites List (must be logged into a User Account)
  • Citation - Copy and paste the MLA, Chicago, APA, or Harvard citation for the video. ​
  • Segment - Create your own segment to share (must be logged into a User Account)​

Narrowing Your Results

Your result list will show segments and full titles that meet your criteria.  To narrow your results, click on Filter Options next to the number of results, then click Apply.

You can filter by: Formats (full titles, segments or series), Copyright Dates (Within 5, 10, 15 or 20 years), Types (Documentaries, Educational, etc.), Subjects, and Producers.

Closed Captioning

Closed captioning is automatically turned on for each video. To turn closed captioning off, go to the bottom right of the video screen, click on the CC button and select OFF.

Translating

Every video player page in Films On Demand can be translated into any of more than 130 different languages—including the transcript! Find the colorful G Google translate menu buttonat the very bottom of each page.

Troubleshooting

You may need to talk with the internet administrator for your network if using at a school or business.
