Canvas Faculty Guide: Adding Library Resources

Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video platform. The NWTC Library subscribes to over 10,000 of the 15,000 documentaries on this platform.​

You no longer need to create an account to browse the Kanopy collection, watch films, and view playlists in a browser on a computer. 

You do need to create an account if creating watchlists/playlists or watching videos from mobile devices and Chromebooks (download the required Kanopy app first at the App Store or Google Play, then create your account).

Your steps to access Kanopy may differ depending on if you're on campus and how you arrive at Kanopy's website. To get started:

Following a link to a film

1. Below the film's cover image, select Watch now.
   
2. Select Log in to NWTC.
3. Enter your NWTC ID and password.

Following a link to a playlist

1. Select Log in to NWTC.
2. Enter your NWTC ID and password.

From NWTC's Kanopy landing page

1. Select Visit the NWTC collection.
   
2. Select Log in to NWTC (if prompted).
3. Enter your NWTC ID and password.

1. Select Get started.
   
2. Select Find your university.
   
3. Enter Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and select it from the list.
   
4. Select Log in to NWTC (if prompted).
5. Enter your NWTC ID and password.

For access to more features, create a Kanopy account.

NOTE: If you had a Kanopy account from another school or library, use that account to login, then hover over your name, go to My Account>My Libraries, and choose Add New Library. Select Find Your Library and follow the prompts.

1. Create an account in Kanopy and/or login.
2. Navigate to your Dashboard and My Lists.  Then select My Watchlist or Custom Playlist. 
3. Click on the desired video or playlist.
4. Scroll down and click on Share.
5. Choose the shareable Link or get the Embed Code. 

Playlists are an easy way to organize films you'd like to review later or share with others. A playlist in Kanopy can be one or many films and can be edited at any time.

When you find a film you'd like to add to an existing or new collection:

1. Create an account in Kanopy and/or login.
2. Scroll down and click on the Playlists tab.
3. Click  next to the custom playlist.
4. Or click Playlist and create a new playlist. 

For more information, see Creating Clips and Playlists. If instructors find a film that NWTC does not own but they wish to require students to watch it for multiple sessions, they can contact Kim LaPlante to ask for it to be added to the collection (about $300 per year per title).

To access your Playlists:

1. Create an account in Kanopy and/or login.
2. Click on your Name at the top of the page.
3. Click on My Dashboard.
4. Click on My Lists, Custom Playlists, then on the desired playlist title.
5. Click the Share tab to get a link or embed code. 
6. To edit, select ...and choose Edit, then Edit Clip.
7. To delete a playlist, select ...and choose Delete.

Kanopy allows users to create a clip from any video 

1. Create an account in Kanopy and/or login.
2. Add the video to an existing Playlist or create a new playlist using the directions above. 
3. Next to the desired playlist, select ...and choose Edit, then Edit Clip.
4. Enter a Clip Title. 
5. Select the start and end times for your clip. Use the scrubber on the player to drag and drop clip positions, or enter in the timecodes directly in the fields below the video.
6. Click Save Changes.
