Canvas Faculty Guide: Adding Library Resources

Adding E-Books

You can use the Library Search (EBSCO) External Tool option to search for and add full e-books to Canvas.

If you are starting your search in any of the Library's resources, you may want to just copy and paste the persistent URL for the ebook or download a chapter as a PDF file and add it to Canvas.  Persistent URLs have the advantage of allowing you to link to specific pages or chapters.

Copying an Ebook Link from Library Search Results Page

If you find an Ebook Central, EBSCO, or O'Reilly ebook in the results of a search in Library Search, you can copy the link to the book to share with others:

In Chrome and Firefox, right-click on Click to read this ebook online and select Copy link address or Copy link location.

Adding Links to Ebook Central Ebooks in Canvas

You can create links to ebook titles, chapters, and pages to any book you find in Ebook Central (for searching help, see Faculty Instructions for Ebook Central).

  1. Search or browse for books or chapters
  2. Copy the url from the top of the browser
  3. Paste the url into Canvas.

Please note that there is NOT a proxy prefix in front of Ebook Central links.

Adding Links to EBSCO ebooks

You can create links to ebook titles you find in EBSCO ebooks.

Once you find the desired book, click on the Permalink tool on the right side of the screen.

Linking to O'Reilly (formerly Safari) Content

It is very easy to link to resources from O'Reilly.  For details on how to search, browse, and create playlists, visit our O'Reilly guide.

Once you find the ebook, online video, case study, or online tutorial, you can simply copy the url from the browser window and add it to Blackboard as a new item.  You do not need to add a proxy prefix to the link since O'Reilly uses NWTC's single sign-on solution.
